Matt Becker American, b. 1991
Matt Becker is a ceramicist and illustrator who enjoys color, gestural form, and when his glaze firings behave themselves. He has an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and teaches Pottery and Illustration courses, as well as vending his work at craft fairs and other events.
Matt Becker creates handbuilt & wheel thrown ceramics that are volatile, vibrant, and visually delicious. His work is primarily functional, embracing the utilitarian nature of clay and creating mugs, flowerpots, trays, and bowls that are both experimental and distinctive but robust enough for everyday use. Matt’s hope is that his work can give the user a little bit of chaotic magic in their day to day life, making even the most routine cup of coffee or humblest of plants feel a little more special. Even his non-functional pieces are well-suited for the home, offering the same level of craft with that little extra twist that makes for a fascinating piece of decor that can add some spark to a room.
